Understanding the 2024 Indonesian Visa and Residence Permit Scheme

The scheme presented in the image outlines the various Indonesian visa and residence permit options available in 2024, as defined by the Regulation of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights No. 22 of 2023. Here is a detailed description of each category:

  1. Visa-Free Facility:
Travelers can enter Indonesia without a visa and receive a stay permit sticker valid for 30 days upon arrival at immigration border control. This permit cannot be extended nor changed, and no exit permit application is necessary—once it expires, travelers simply leave Indonesia.
  2. Visa on Arrival:
This option is available at immigration border control, granting a stay permit sticker for either max 7 or 30 days. It is extendable for an additional 30 days of stay, which can be managed either online or in person at an immigration office. Similar to the visa-free facility, it cannot be changed to another permit type, and there is no need for an exit permit application—travelers depart before it expires.
  3. Visitor Visa (Visa Kunjungan):
This visa requires an online visa application before entering Indonesia and provides a Visitor Permit sticker for a period ranging from 60 to 180 days. It is notable that this Visitor Permit can be changed to an ITAS (Temporary Residence Permit), with extensions applied online or in person at an immigration office. However, there is no need to apply for an exit permit separately; travelers can just leave before the permit expires.
  4. Temporary Residence Visa (Vitas):
Also applied for online before entering Indonesia, this visa’s length of stay depends on the specific visa index grant you apply. It can be extended and is changeable to an ITAP (Permanent Stay Permit). For those holding ITAS or ITAP, an exit permit must be applied before you leave Indonesia, at the location where the original permit was granted.

Each visa type comes with specific guidelines for application, stay duration, extension, and exit procedures, reflecting Indonesia’s commitment to maintaining a streamlined, secure, and digital-friendly immigration system. This information is crucial for anyone planning to travel or reside in Indonesia, ensuring they can navigate the visa process with clarity and ease.
